Specialist support for adult victims and survivors of sexual violence and abuse

8 February 2021

This is an important new service, which arose from the work done over many years to understand the needs of adult victims and survivors of sexual violence and abuse.

Nottinghamshire County Council Chief Executive, Anthony May has sponsored this work and alongside colleagues from Adult and Children’s services, worked to learn the lessons from IICSA.

Paddy Tipping, the Police and Crime Commissioner, recently awarded a contract to Notts SVS Services to deliver a new specialist hub and therapeutic support service for adult victims and survivors of sexual violence and abuse, funded by me as well as Bassetlaw Clinical Commissioning Group, Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Clinical Commissioning Group, Nottingham City Council and Nottinghamshire County Council.

The new service will begin full operation on 2 January 2021. Notts SVS Services is taking referrals now for the service, which will offer a single point of contact for adult survivors of sexual violence or child sexual abuse who are seeking support. It will enable victims and survivors to access the help they need, including specialist therapy and counselling and access to wider NHS mental health services. Support will initially be delivered online and by telephone, however, once Covid restrictions are lifted face to face support will be available from multiple locations in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.
